The Next President of Maryville College

Dr. Gerald W. Gibson, the 10th president of Maryville College, announced his intention to retire, effective May 31, 2010, which will bring to a close the “Gibson Years.” Through his leadership, beginning in 1993, Maryville College entered the new century, embraced a culture of strategic planning, spearheaded significant improvements to the physical plant, reached new heights in enrollment and endowment, and became a campus that strikes a distinctive balance between academic challenge and community spirit.

The Maryville College Board of Directors has selected a 15-person presidential search committee, chaired by Dr. Bryant Cureton ’60, a member of the College’s Board and former president of Elmhurst College.

In addition to Cureton the committee is composed of six board members, the president of the alumni board (also an MC board member), three faculty members, one staff member, one administrator, and two students.

Dr. Dorsey D. “Dan” Ellis, alumnus and chairman of the MC Board of Directors, will serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member. Laura Case, assistant to the president, will provide administrative assistance to the committee.

The search committee is charged to present to the Board three to four outstanding candidates in time for the Board to act at its January 2010 meeting.
