Sportswriter and eventually assistant sports editor of Birmingham (Ala.) Post-Herald, from 1967-70.
Assistant sports information director and eventually sports information director, University of Alabama from 1970-79.
Founder and editor ‘BAMA Magazine from 1979-Present with complementary web site, BamaMag.com.

Writing and editing stories of University of Alabama athletics. Although ‘BAMA Magazine and BamaMag.com cover all intercollegiate sports, I personally cover only football and men’s basketball. A typical day depends on the season and the day of the week, be it doing interviews, covering press conferences, covering games both in Tuscaloosa and road games, making assignments for writers and photographers, writing and editing stories. I also do quite a bit of speaking at quarterback clubs and the like and sometimes have a book in the works.

Working for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant for nine years.

In 1972, I was one of the founding members of the Alabama Sports Writers Association. In 2012 I became the 14th inductee into the ASWA Hall of Fame.

In part, my Maryville College experience prepared me for my professional career by making me a hard worker. I worked full time for the Maryville Times (it was called the Maryville-Alcoa Daily Times in those days) while earning my degree, so I learned to budget time and work efficiently.

I play golf and almost every day my wife Lynne and I take an evening pontoon boat ride, our cocktail cruise.

…have had four books published (and have also contributed to a handful of others). All are centered on Alabama football.
