There are a variety of meal plan options available to our students. All students living on campus must have a meal plan. Meals can be purchased in the amounts of 150, 190, or 230 meals per semester (prices and more information can be found here).

All first-year students living on campus must have a Gold plan.

Sophomores may have a Gold or Silver plan.

Juniors and Seniors and all students living in a room/suite/apartment with a kitchen may choose between the Gold, Silver, or Bronze plan.

Each meal plan listed above includes $50 in flex dollars. Students may also opt to add a certain amount of flex dollars onto their meal plan. They may select flex dollars plans during room selection or can contact the Residence Life office at the beginning of each semester to change their flex dollar plan. Flex dollars can also be added to a student’s account at any point in the year by contacting the Business Office at 865-981-8249. Flex dollars carry over from the fall to spring semester, but balances are set to $0 at the end of the spring semester.

Students wishing to change their meal plans before the start of the semester may do so by emailing Director of Campus life, Doniqua Chen.

Each residence hall room is furnished with a bed, mattress, desk, desk chair, mini-blinds, closet and dresser drawers for each student.

All other residence halls vary in size and shape. In Copeland, Davis, and Gamble Halls, room size is 15’2”L x 10’2”W (not including closet space); window size is 42”W x 64”L; bed size is twin, extra-long; mattress size: 36”W x 80”L (twin, extra-long).

Washers and dryers are located on the ground floor of each residence hall in Copeland, Gamble, Davis, and Carnegie Halls. Gibson and Lloyd Halls have two laundry rooms on each floor, each with a washer and dryer. Beeson Village has a laundry room located on the ground floor of Memorial Hall (building A) on the side facing Court Street, below apartment A1. Laundry machine use is included in the cost of each room. We highly recommend that you bring liquid laundry detergent for your clothes and bedding. There have been a number of incidents with students using improper amounts of powdered detergent. This causes machines to break down not be available for other residents to use. Only residential students may use the laundry machines located in the residence halls!

Conflict is an inevitable part of adulthood. We often remind students that while you may hope to be close friends with your roommate, this is often an unrealistic and ill-advised expectation. While we hope you get along with your roommate, we know that some differences may arise and we are here to assist you in navigating those. We offer lots of opportunities to get involved and stay active to help you broaden your social network.

If you and your roommate are not getting along:

  1. Talk to them IRL. Include statements that are not accusatory but rather focus on how you are experiencing the room and feeling. This should be a two way communication. Talking (or posting) about your roommate to friends or other students but not to your roommate, may escalate the situation. Most people say they prefer direct communication.
  2. Establish a roommate agreement. This is a set of mutually agreed upon expectations for the room. Include things like light/sound after an established time, shared food, guests, a cleaning schedule.
  3. Seek out the help of your RA. They may help you in navigating these conversations. They are trained to be a helpful mediator.
  4. If you have done 1-3 and are still feeling uncomfortable in your room, your RD may step in and facilitate dialogue and change.

Residents may not change residence hall spaces (even within a suite/apartment) without following established procedures and obtaining approval from the Housing Coordinator. Residents seeking to change rooms must: first, meet with the Resident Assistant on the floor to discuss the move and/or conduct a mediation; second, meet with the Resident Director of the residence hall to discuss the room change; finally, once the previous two steps have been satisfied, the resident should meet with the Housing Coordinator to discuss and plan the possible room change. Exemptions to this process will be considered by Residence Hall staff in consultation with the Director of Student Services.
