MC youth choirs to present holiday concert

The Maryville College Youth Choirs will present a holiday concert on Tues., Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall.

During the concert, the ensembles will perform holiday favorites, including “Child of Peace” by David Waggoner; “Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad” by Sally Albrecht; and “A Winter Song” by David Eddleman. The performance is free and open to the public.

Youth Choirs include the Scottie Singers, a youth choir for students in grades two through five, and the Scots Chorale, an ensemble of intermediate and middle school-aged singers. Martha Robinson, who is assisted by Maryville College graduate Jade Watts ‘12, directs both ensembles. The Highlander Chorale, a high school-aged student ensemble that is directed by Jill Purvis, will also perform.

“There is nothing that quite inspires the Christmas spirit as the sound of young voices singing traditional holiday songs,” said Stacey Wilner, coordinator of choral music at Maryville College. “Their young voices create a sense of ‘Christmas past, present and future,’ connecting generations and reminding us of family ties over the holidays.”
