Services and Ceremonies
Baccalaureate services for the Class of 2016 are planned for 5 p.m., Saturday, May 14, in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre of the Clayton Center for the Arts. Ms. Vandy Kemp, Vice President and Dean of Students at Maryville College, will be this year’s speaker. The title of her sermon is “Lessons of Love from MC and Me.” The service is open to the public.
Graduation exercises for the Class of 2016 will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 15, on the lawn between Anderson Hall and Sutton Science Center. The Commencement speaker will be Many-Bears Grinder, Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services. She will also be receiving an honorary doctor of public service degree from the College. Her address is titled, “Call to Serve.” There will be no tickets and attendance will not be limited if the ceremony is held outside.
In case of inclement weather, Commencement will be moved to the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre of the Clayton Center. Entrance to the inclement weather location is by ticket only and each graduate will be allotted three (3) tickets. All non-ticket holders will be directed to the Boydson Baird Gymnasium in the Cooper Athletic Center where the ceremony will be broadcast live in high definition on the large screen. The decision to move inside will be announced on the MC Website by 10:00 a.m. on May 15. Seniors will be able to pick up tickets during graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 13 (A photo ID will be required to pick up tickets and they must be signed for).
The inclement weather overflow location in the Cooper Athletic Center will be open even if the ceremony is held outside for those that wish to get out of the sun.
The president invites all graduates, their families and friends, and Commencement participants to attend a reception honoring Maryville College’s 2016 Graduating Class immediately following Commencement. It will be held in the Clayton Center Foyer.

The Class of 2016 will hold graduation rehearsal in the Alumni Gym at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 13. Seniors who are marching are encouraged to bring a pen or pencil. Inclement weather tickets will be distributed during graduation rehearsal. A photo ID will be required to pick up tickets and they must be signed for.
Photography and DVD Purchases
PhotoPlay Studios will be taking photos of graduating seniors at Commencement. Photos available for purchase include shots of individual graduates receiving their diplomas from the president and a photo of the entire Class of 2016. Pre-ordering is not necessary. Proofs of
the photos can be viewed online at www.photoplaystudios.com, and will be available for viewing by the afternoon of May 25th. PhotoPlay Studios offers several packages ranging in price from $14.95 to $29.95. Questions about photography should be directed to the photographers by calling 865.546.0977.
Class Photos: Graduates are to assemble at 1:00 p.m. in the Boydson Baird Gymnasium in the Cooper Athletic Center for the Class of 2016 photo.
Individual Photos: We ask that parents and guests refrain from coming forward for pictures during the ceremony. A professional photographer from PhotoPlay Studios of Knoxville will be capturing individual photos of the president presenting the graduate with his/her diploma.
Streaming video of Commencement Exercises will be broadcast live in high definition by PopFizz™. A direct link to the ceremony will be available from the Maryville College homepage, maryvillecollege.edu. The broadcast will be archived on the MC website within hours of the ceremony’s conclusion. The archived broadcast will be accessible for a time period, but not forever. To purchase a DVD copy of the ceremony in its entirety, please fill out the online form on the Maryville College website. The cost is $20 per copy which includes shipping and handling. The deadline to order is Monday, May 16.
Graduating seniors, the College’s faculty and staff members, and members of the College’s Alumni Board are invited to the annual Senior Barbecue, scheduled for 12:15 PM, May 13, in the McArthur Pavilion. Sponsored by the College’s Alumni Association, the barbecue means great food, refreshing beverages and memorable times with friends. Graduates will receive their senior gift from the Alumni Association at this event.
