MC Quick Fact

MC has 8,790 living alumni. To date, approximately 2,565 (or 29 percent) have given to the Maryville Fund this fiscal year. The goal for the Fund is to have a total of 3,516 alumni (40 percent) give before May 31, 2009.

Upcoming

Voices Of Praise, the College’s gospel choir, will be touring the Chattanooga area April 17-19. Times and locations will be posted on the MC web site at a later date.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Jim Bloy will celebrate his 81st year of life with a recital scheduled for 3 p.m., Sun., May 3 at Broadway United Methodist Church in Maryville. Watch the MC web site for details.

David RamseyCommencement Weekend 2009 is scheduled for May 15-17. Dave Ramsey, popular Christian financial advisor, radio and television host and New York Times bestseller, will give the commencement address. To read more, visit the MC web site.

“Health Care Analysis:  Blount County, Tennessee, and Shangri-La, China”
For his Senior Study, economics major Cory Everett ‘09 looked at the similarities and differences of modern health care in two communities on opposite sides of the globe. Read more.

Legends of Anderson Hall

Horace OrrOne of the most memorable professors ever to inhabit a classroom in Anderson Hall nearly missed his calling to teach. But an intuitive and wise President Samuel T. Wilson convinced Horace Orr, a former student, to give it a try. STUDENT PAPER SELECTED FOR PUBLICATION IN NATIONAL JOURNAL

A research paper written by Kelsey White, a junior Spanish major, was recently selected for publication in El Cid, a journal of the Spanish honorary society Sigma Delta Pi. Read more about the honor on the MC web site.

STUDENT ATHLETES EARN POST-SEASON HONORS

AthleticsNatalie Munday, a senior forward for the Scots’ women’s basketball team, was named an All-American performer by D3hoops.com. Eryk Watson, a sophomore guard for Coach Randy Lambert’s basketball team, was named to a pair of All-South Region teams.

CIVIC ARTS CENTER “TOPPING OUT” AND NAMING CEREMONY IS APRIL 24

Civic Arts CenterThe official name for this impressive facility will be announced during an event that will begin on site at 11:15 a.m. Come early and sign the last piece of steel that will be placed in the structure. For more information, visit the MC web site.

Recorded live at Old High Church in Inverness, Scotland, during the 2008 Choir Tour, the CD includes arrangements of “Annie Laurie” and a medley of Scottish folksongs by James Laster ’55, as well as “Be Thou a Smooth Way,” “Ol’ Time Religion” and “Short People.” To download an order form, click here.
