MC Quick Fact

The 33rd Treasurer of the United States, appointed by President Richard Nixon in 1969, was Dorothy Andrews Elston Kabis, a member of the College’s Class of 1939. She served as treasurer until her untimely death in 1971.

Upcoming

In addition to the annual MLK Day Celebration at the College, Maryville College’s Center for Strong Communities is hosting two special events designed to engage people in discussions about what Dr. King would say and do in response to 21st-century issues. Events are scheduled for Jan. 15, Jan. 19 and Jan. 20. For details, visit the Arts & Culture calendar.

Undergraduate Research

“A New Creation”
This month, read about – and see – the Senior Study that was written, sketched, drawn and painted by art major Jonathan Howe ’07. Inspired by Scripture found in 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, Howe created a new kind of Christian art.

Legends of Anderson Hall

As treasurer from 1914 until his death in 1943, Fred Lowry Proffitt guided the College through the fiscal crises brought on by World War I and the Great Depression. To find out more about the fundraising project to renovate the interior of Anderson, visit the MC web site.

Academics

Peter Coats

PETER COATS ’10 SELECTED FOR BUSINESS TODAY CONFERENCE

Coats, an international business major, was one of only 150 students picked for an all-expense paid trip to New York and opportunity to meet more than 60 CEOs of major corporations. Go online and read about Peter’s experience.

Athletics

FALL-SPORT ATHLETES SET NEW RECORDS

Previously held records were broken for goals in a season (women’s soccer) and career rushing, and outstanding performances given by other Scots this season point to more records being crushed in the very near future. Read Stefan Cooper’s story on the MC web site.

Student Development

STUDENTS RAISE MONEY FOR HEIFER PROJECT INTERNATIONAL

An ark of animals may not be on every community’s Christmas list, but students in MC’s Peace and World Concerns organization know that 15 pairs of animals in a poor village can make a huge difference. Read about the group’s fundraising efforts.

KENNETH E. BORING MAKES $250,000 GIFT TO CAC
