Jenny's story
To help you sort out career options and choose the educational path that's right, you'll have the chance to talk one-to-one with a mentor from the CC&C. You'll talk about your goals, your passions, your learning and work styles, your philosophy of life. You'll look for the intersection between who you are, what you want to do, and whom you want to become.
You know much about yourself already. Once you have gone through the assessment process in the CC&C, you have well-organized information about yourself. But information is not enough. The process of discernment with a vocational counselor assists you to think through what the information means and how best to use it. You should come to know yourself better and make better decisions about your future. A discernment/vocation counselor is an experienced person who can help you see things about yourself and the world that increases the likelihood of making good decisions about your life.
Vocation is the way of direction in life that fits with who you are, your gifts, your sense of integrity. Vocation in this sense is concerned with career decisions, but it also extends to the whole of one’s life and how one lives. Discernment is the life-long process of listening to one’s life and to the world in which one lives and discovering time and again how to live out one’s life with integrity.
