Hello and Welcome to Maryville College!

I am originally from California and have called MC my home since 1994. Yes, I know that this is before many of you were born, but for me it was the first time I had ever lived outside of CA. I have grown as a teacher, scholar, researcher, and world citizen – and it is as a direct result of my teaching at MC. Some examples include …

  • I have had opportunities to travel to Austria, Mexico, VietNam, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons (oftentimes taking students with me).
  • I have taught courses on The Intersectionality of Women’s Experiences, Road to Justice (civil rights tour of the Southeast), First Year Seminar that focused on Food, and Our Rights and Responsibilities as US Citizens (an interdisciplinary sophomore-level course)!
  • I have seen my advisees graduate and become physicians, artists, business managers, educators, counselors, non-profit leaders, social justice leaders, and so much more!

I look forward to meeting you in the halls of Sutton Science Center and perhaps you will become one of my student assistants in my Positive Psychology Laboratory, where we study the impact of racial, national origin, sexual, and gender prejudice on college campuses and how people respond in positive ways through coping skills, resiliency, and education.

Please let me know if you have any questions or want to talk about our programs at Maryville College. This is an exciting time in your life and we look forward to helping you meet your life-long goals!
