A:   After graduating from Maryville College, I attended Marshall University Medical School in West Virginia from 1998-2002. After school I entered my family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I completed my residency in 2005. I practiced for 3 years (2005-2008) at Cherokee Health Systems in Seymour. In 2008, my husband and I joined University Health Systems and currently practice together at our clinic in Seymour, Tenn.

Q:  Describe your job or a typical day “in the office.”

A:   My day in the office starts at 7 a.m. I see patients throughout the day and finish around 4 or 5 p.m. My patient population consists of newborns to elderly adults. I have an interest in women’s health, as well as preventative medicine. I perform procedures in the office ranging from skin lesion removal, joint injections to interpretation of x-rays, EKG’s and spirometry reports.

Q:  What has been your most exciting/enjoyable professional experience to date?

A:   My most exciting professional experience has been obtaining my Fellowship in Family Medicine.

Q:   What interested you in serving on the MC Alumni Association Board?

A:   I wanted to serve on the MC Alumni Board to give back to the school, professors, staff and students who helped me during my four years at Maryville College. I hope that I can help in creating opportunities for students to grow as they start their studies to further their career interests.

Q:    Since graduating from MC, what has made you the most proud?

A:    The birth of my son, Seth, and my daughter, Aiden, and the adoption of our daughter, Caroline, have made me most proud.

Q:    How did your MC experience prepare you for your vocation and/or life?

A:    My MC experience has allowed me to provide care to a variety of patients with a myriad of belief systems. First, Maryville College provided a solid science background, which prepared me for my four years of medical school. Also, my ability to work in situations that require a compassionate and open-minded approach was created from values and ethics learned while attending Maryville College.

Q:  What are your hobbies?  What do you do for fun?

A:    My hobbies include painting, working in my rose garden and completing strength training and aerobic exercises.

Q:  Professionally or personally, what’s still on your “bucket list”?

A:    Obtaining my MBA degree is still on my “bucket list.” I would like to obtain this to help with my professional experience in the office setting.

Q:     What’s your best memory from your years as a student at MC?

A:     My best memory is working closely with friends as we prepared for our studies. I also have fond memories of the times with friends outside of the classroom as we developed strong friendships that are still present today.

A:     continued growth in its student enrollment.
