Bill Francis Adair

has taken on the role of Takasago’s global coordinator for the Campbell Soup Company. Adair will draw on his 27 years of flavor sales experience. He started his career with Ottens Flavors, where he spent six years as Mid Atlantic regional sales manager calling on Kellogg’s, Post, Hershey and other key regional accounts. He was then hired by Givaudan in 1992 and spent 21 years there, starting as an account executive and then moving into the role of global coordinator, calling primarily on Campbell’s Soup Company and White Rock Distilleries. Adair studied Business Administration at Maryville College and also attended programs in Global Key Account Management at University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business and University of Michigan Ross School of Business Negotiation Training. At Takasago, Mr. Adair reports directly to Brian Buck.

Alice Leeth Adamson

Alice Leeth Adamson '67 and husband, Dr. Doug Adamson, from Tucson, were traveling though Maryville for a family reunion and to meet up with some old friends! Alice used to live in Willard House with other female students and Dean Frances Massey, the Dean of Women from 1953-1968. Alice enjoyed looking around the house and remembering how it used to look when she lived here. Interesting fact: Alice and Doug met in Ethiopia as Peace Corps Volunteers!

Robertson Allen married his partner of 11 years, Dorothy Cheng, in May 2016 at a wedding on the Olympic Peninsula, WA. Rob's book, based on his doctoral research and titled America's Digital Army: Games at Work and War, is scheduled to be published by the University of Nebraska Press in July, 2017.

Jon Allison has joined the leadership core team at CareSource as Executive Vice President, External Affairs. Allison is an accomplished executive with experience leading high-profile initiatives and will direct the rapidly growing company’s external affairs. Jon Allison, former partner with the law firm Carpenter, Lipps & Leland LLP has more than 20 years of experience in legislative and regulatory affairs, policy development, public relations and law. Allison founded and led the Ohio statewide Medicaid expansion coalition of more than 150 diverse organizations. From 2003 -2006, he was the Chief of Staff and senior adviser for Ohio Governor Bob Taft. Allison earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville College in Tennessee and a juris doctor from the Ohio State University College of Law. He is active in his community, having served on the board of directors for the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, and is a former gubernatorial appointee to the Ohio Lottery Commission. “I am pleased to welcome Jon Allison to the newly configured position of Executive Vice President of External Affairs. finished 13th in the world at the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games in July. In August he came back to campus to speak to this year’s Fighting Scots football team about his journey from being a student athlete to being a world-class competitor.

2016 was his second year qualifying and competing at the worldwide CrossFit Games. In 2015 he received 13th place, and in July 2016 came in at 11th place! He said while he was hoping to do better this year, he is still happy to improve upon last year. He looks forward to this years training, and is hungry to get back out there and represent East Tennessee and Maryville College.

On June 16, 2016 Katherine Anderson ’11 was presented with the Council of Organizations Serving Deaf Alabamians (COSDA) Interpreter Award. This award recognizes an interpreter who has demonstrated a commitment to the field of interpreting, the development of the interpreting profession and professionals, and demonstrates respect for and encouragement of current practitioners and consumers. Fellow MC alumna, Nancy Leisering Hayes ’81 also won the award at this time.

During the international Reebok CrossFit Games Aug. 3-6 in Madison, Wis., Alex finished in ninth place after coming in 11th in 2016 and 13th in 2015. As a professional CrossFit athlete, he trains by doing multiple workout sessions a day in this discipline that involves everything from training with weights, to physical endurance, to gymnastics-like exercises. Following a nationwide search, Pierce County (WA) has selected Judith C. Archer to be director of Human Resources. Archer joins the County from Kinder Morgan, Inc., where she served nearly eight years as the director of Human Resources for the Texas-based energy infrastructure company and its 11,000 employees. “Judy has a remarkably broad background in Human Resources,” said Bruce Dammeier, County Executive. “Whether at a small privately held company, a large multi-national public corporation, or a startup, Judy has brought strong leadership, skilled change management and respected labor relations negotiations to every organization she has served. Her strong track record of developing and implementing effective human resources strategies will serve the employees and, ultimately the residents, of Pierce County.” The new county role marks a return to the Pacific Northwest for Archer. Earlier in her career she held positions at Tacoma Goodwill, Pioneer Industries and Toray Composites. After 36 years in the Johnson County School system, Steve has decided to retire from teaching and coaching to spend more time on the golf course and the front porch, but will still work part time at Hux Funeral Home.

Ralph E. Ayers ’60 and his wife, Kitty, moved to Las Vegas in July, 2018 to be near two of their children, Vicki (class of 2001) & Matt (with whom they are living) and who both work for Cirque Du Soleil, Michael Jackson One show. They will spend the next few months looking for a home of their own in the Vegas area as they adapt to the change from the tropics of the Texas Rio Grande Valley and the Gulf of Mexico to the altitude and desert heat of southern Nevada.

is enrolled in UT’s School of Information Science. She is in the scholarship program called ITRL2 for rural librarians. She also recently was promoted to Youth Services Manager at the Blount County Library.

In 2016 Evelyn and Gareth (both from the Class of 1954) were asked to form and chair a committee in Bristol Village to raise funds from Bristol Village residents to help build a new Pike County Public Library in Waverly, Ohio. Bristol Village is a retirement community in Waverly, Ohio and they have in their own independent house for 18 years. The couple is still in good health and are very active in their church and community. They realized this was a historical undertaking and would benefit all ages of people in Pike County for the next 100 years. It was predicted the building will cost over $3,500,000 and it would take at least five years to raise the necessary funds and to build. Gareth and Evelyn gathered a committee and together they set a goal of $250,000 just for Bristol Village residents. That goal was exceeded in cash and pledges in just over six months. On June 29, 2017 the Pike County Rotary Club honored the couple for their community service along with another couple who worked closely with them. Currently, $259,653 has been raised from BV residents.

Charles retired from the UT Austin Butler School of Music on December 31, 2019 after 40 years of service as Head Piano Technician. His husband, Steve Cannon (Strawberry Plains/UT Knoxville), & Charles now live in retirement in Austin, Texas, although he still freelances as a piano technician and works for arts organizations such as the Van Cliburn Foundation in Fort Worth, the Seattle Chamber Music Society, the Seattle Symphony, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, etc. Charles sang in the MC choir and took care of the pianos on campus until they moved to Texas in 1980.

His wife, Barbara nee: Godshalk ’58 died after an illness on May 16, 2015. He wrote to say, “We would have been married 57 years in August of 2015. We had a good life together. We met in Anderson Hall in 1954 in Mrs. Margaret Cummings Bible Class. Barbara taught pre-school and third grade. I served 4 pastorates from 1961 – 1999.”

He also recently moved to the position of Assistant Professor of Folklore in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Regent University announced on Tuesday Spencer Beaty will be the new Head Coach of the men’s basketball team.

Prior to taking the position at Regent, Beaty served as assistant coach at Hardin-Simmons University in Texas, coached winning programs at Maryville College and coached for high schools in Tennessee and Florida.

“After a national search that attracted over 60 applicants, ranging from NCAA Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, NAIA, Junior College, and all the way down to the high school ranks, I am thrilled to add Coach Beaty to our Royals family,” Director of Athletics at Regent Michael Allen said. “I have known Spencer since his collegiate playing days and have followed his coaching career through the years. He has the passion, knowledge, energy, and experience we were looking for as we make our transition to NCAA Division III.”

Throughout his career, Beaty has coached Academic All-Conference players, All-Region players, multiple Conference Player of the Year and two McDonald All-Americans.

“I want to thank Dr. Umidi, Michael Allen, the athletic department coaches and staff, and the committee for entrusting me as the next head coach of the men’s basketball program,” Beaty said. “Regent is a special place that I have intentionally prayed about, and that Christ would open the door so not only that I might lead young men, but that I might continue to grow my relationship with the Lord in his called mission field for myself.”
