Dorothy Bass Alexander, 99, of 210 Edgedale Dr., High Point, NC passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016. She was born in Rice, Virginia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gates Bass. She graduated from Maryville College in Maryville, TN and received her Masters of Education from UNC Greensboro. She worked as a teacher and guidance counselor for High Point City Schools. She was active in First Presbyterian Church of High Point. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bruce Alexander Sr. and a daughter, Suzanne Alexander Ragan. She is survived by a son T. Bruce Alexander Jr. and two grandchildren, Herbert T. Ragan III, and Beth Ragan Inman, and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at the family plot in Rice, Virginia at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, on Friday December, 16, Rev. Dr. Ken Broman-Fulks of First Presbyterian Church in High Point conducted the service. Sechrest Funeral Service of High Point was honored to serve the Alexander Family. Nancy Lee Allen, 99, of Greeneville, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Life Care Center of Greeneville. She was a retired librarian and was a member of New Providence Church in Maryville, TN. Survivors include a son, John David Allen of Greeneville; three daughters, Joy Sue Allen and Nancy Lee Allen, both of Maryville, and Ruth Allen of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Heidi Meadows Chitwood of Huntsville, AL, Amy Meadows of Maryville, David Thut of St. Petersburg, FL, Cami Demery of Raleigh, NC, Robbie Allen of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Ben Chitwood and Grace Chitwood of Huntsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles H. Allen of Kingsport. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Raper Berrier

of Lexington passed away Friday (November 21, 2014) after years of declining health. She celebrated a lifelong goal on July 9, 2014 as she reached her hundredth birthday. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday (November 25, 2014) at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church with Rev. Karen Roberts officiating. A private interment at Mt. Olivet will precede the service. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Monday night. Annie was born in Davidson County, July 9, 1914 to David Madison and Flora Bell Craver Raper, the ninth of ten children. She was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee. On June 27, 1940 she married Ernest Paul Berrier and lived most of her life in Arcadia. Anne was an active lifetime member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church where she served as church librarian and chairman of the Paul Evans Scholarship Fund. She was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Suzanna Wesley Bible Sunday School Class. She enjoyed being a member of the Davidson County Extension Club and Margaret Ripple’s various arts and craft classes. She spent most of her career in the Davidson County Schools teaching at Midway and North Davidson Junior High School, retiring in 1976. Mrs. Berrier was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables, other hobbies included crafts, needlework, painting, traveling and reading. When Mr. Berrier went to the coast on his many fishing trips, she always accompanied him bringing a good book, not a fishing rod. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest Paul Berrier in 1987, her sisters, Mary and Pearl, brothers, Grady, Austin, Ira, Paul and Charles. Surviving are her children, Barbara Teal (Wilson), Becky Lewis (Mike), David Berrier all of Lexington and Phil Berrier of Santa Barbara, CA; grandchildren, CW5 Myke Lewis, Jr. (Sherrie) of the US Army, Lori Weaver (Robert) of Lexington, Randall Teal (Lisa) of Carrboro, Jeff Teal (Tracy) of Creedmoor, Rebecca Mabe (Jeremy) of Lexington, Chris Berrier (Kristin) of Lewisville and Christina Thomas of Tulum, Mexico, great-grandchildren, Benton and Anna-Jane Lewis, Kaytlyn and Avery Hester, Colson and Chase Teal, Charlie Teal, Olivia and Justin Mabe, Emma Eggers and Luca Thomas Maza, and 1 great-great-grandchild, Kyndal Leonard; sister, Margaret Hemingway of Charlottesville, VA; sister-in-law, Rachel Sink of Thomasville; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Ed Brubaker

Rev. Dr. Charles Edward Brubaker, age 99, of Kennett Square, PA, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Kendal at Longwood Community in Kennett Square. He was the husband of Doris Jane King Brubaker, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. Born in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Lauren E. and the late Nora (Drake) Brubaker. He earned a BA from Maryville College in 1938, a BD (Bachelor’s of Divinity) from Princeton Theological Seminary, 1941 was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Maryville College. After graduating from Princeton, he entered the pastorate at North Avenue Presbyterian Church, New Rochelle, New York, 1941-43. After Pearl Harbor he became a Chaplain in the US Marine Corps, 1943-46. His service there included the battles of Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa and the occupation of Nagasaki. He was awarded the Bronze star. Ed and Doris J. King were married in 1946 and have shared in the ministry ever since, serving four more pastorates: Central Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, AK, 1948-53; Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA, 1953-60; First Presbyterian Church, Englewood, NJ, 1960- 69; and First Presbyterian Church, Wichita, KS, 1969-79.He was the Synod Executive of the Synod of Mid-America (Kansas and Missouri) 1979 -85. Soon after retirement they offered to be Volunteers in Mission for the Presbyterian Church, USA, and served in that capacity in Trinidad, West Indies 1986-88, where they were assigned four churches. He served on the Board of Directors of Maryville College, Maryville, TN, 1959-82; Princeton Seminary Board of Trustees, 1959-62, Presbyterian Dept. of Chaplain & Service Personnel as Chairman, 1963-69; Wichita, Ks Rotary Club, 1969-79; and Wichita, KS Symphony Board, 1974-78. The Brubakers have lived in the Kendal Continuing Care Community, Kennett Square, PA, since 1995. They have been active in and led many different interest groups including the Kendal Residence Association, which manages the life of the community. Doris served on the board and Ed became president. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Wendy Osher, Scott Brubaker, Lynn Brubaker and Laurie Davis; and eight grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob, Isaac, Ryan, Daphne, Mo, Emily and Hannah. A memorial service was held on February 27, 2017 at Kendal At Longwood Auditorium, 1109 East Baltimore Pike Kennett Square, PA 19348. Interment was held that afternoon at First Presbyterian Church in Englewood, N.J. Alice Whitaker Coker

Alice Jane Whitaker Coker, 97, died Nov. 14 at her home in LaFollette. She was born Oct. 22, 1916, at Fairview Farm in New Market. Alice graduated from Maryville College in 1938 with a degree in Sociology, moved to LaFollette and began her first job with the Tennessee Department of Public Welfare. On Nov. 24, 1940, she married Chester Coker, who had been elected Circuit Court Clerk for Campbell County and later became an attorney and General Sessions Judge. She became the acting Circuit Court Clerk while Chester served in the U.S. Army. In 1980, she retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. She loved working with people and helping people. COKER, ALICE JANE WHITAKER – first arrived at Fairview Farm in New Market, Tennessee on October 22, 1916, and left this life on November 14, 2013 from her home in LaFollette, Tennessee. Alice graduated from Maryville College in 1938, with a degree in Sociology, moved to LaFollette and began her first job with the Tennessee Department of Public Welfare. On November 24, 1940 she married Chester Coker, who had been elected Circuit Court Clerk for Campbell County, and later became an attorney and General Sessions Judge. Alice became the acting Circuit Court Clerk while Chester served in the U.S. Army. In 1980, she retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services. Alice loved working with people and helping people. Alice had a lifelong interest in antiques and history, and was a member of the First Families of Tennessee from, both her maternal and paternal families, and was one of the first members of the Campbell County Historical Society. She was instrumental in the dedication of the Delap Civil War Cemetery and finding unknown soldiers graves. Alice was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church in New Market and Jacksboro, and enjoyed participating in all church activities. Alice travelled extensively and loved adventure. At the age of 93, Alice went four wheeling for the first time, and at the age of 94, she took her first ride in a hot air balloon with her grandchildren. Alice was awarded the 2008 Citizen of the Year by the South Campbell County Rotary Club. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Chester Coker; and her sister, Marion Whitaker; and is survived by her sons, John Whitaker Coker and Joseph Coker; and daughter in law, Kemper Coker; and grandchildren, Nancy Ann Coker, Mary Alice Coker, and John J. Coker; and many relatives and friends. Alice requested donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to Jacksboro United Methodist Church or the Campbell County Historical Society in LaFollette. Alice loved life and looked forward to being reunited with those who passed before her. She will be very much missed by her family and friends.

The Reverend Donald Rankin Killian, age 98, died on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Medford Leas, Medford, NJ. His wife of 63 years, Ruth Haines Killian, a brother Nolan Killian and his sister Marion Armstrong preceded him in death. Many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews survive Rev. Killian. A memorial service was held at Medford Leas on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Memorial gifts may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church in Marlton, NJ or the Fund for Financial Assistance at Medford Leas, Medford, NJ.

Pauline McCurry Overly, age 94, passed away July 4, 2011, at Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, TN. She was born July 27, 1916, in Daybook, NC. Mrs. Overly was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Maryville, a graduate of UT in Knoxville, and was a teacher in the Blount County Schools for 30 years with most of her teaching career at Eagleton School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Jack Overly; her parents, Malissa and Ulysses S. McCurry; two brothers; four sisters; and great granddaughter, Brendle Sara Overly. She is survived by her son, Jack Douglas Overly and wife Sheila of Maryville; daughters, Lynda Overly Brittain and husband Terry of Annandale, VA, Marsha Overly Stroud and husband Lewis of Devine, TX. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brian Overly and wife Janet, Shannon Overly Bailey and husband Emmett of Friendsville, TN, Christie Overly Dukes and husband Derrick of Louisville, TN, Rick Brittain and wife Anne of Columbia, SC, Scott Brittain and wife Deanna, Brett Stroud and wife Melissa of Austin, TX, Chad Stroud and wife Pattie of San Angelo, TX, Chad Sunderland and wife Mallory and Cody Sunderland and wife Anna of Knoxville, TN. Mrs Overly is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, Brennen Overly, Brayden and Brieanna Bailey, Makayla, Macey and Jimmy Dukes, Abby and Faith Rutz, Chris and Chase Stroud and Luke Brittain; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. The interment at Grandview Cemetery.

Jane Lloyd Russell, age 95, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012, at Clare Bridge, Troy. She was born on November 22, 1916, in Greenville, Kentucky, to the late Frank A. and Minnie Mae Brown Hunter. She married Robert C. Russell on January 18, 1940, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1999. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Hunter and Karen Russell of Troy and Bruce and Kathleen Russell of High Springs, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law: Annette and Michael Cargill of Troy and Eleanor and John Parker of Ocean City, New Jersey; nine grandchildren: Tanya Brian Kirkpatrick, Tina Harry Wagner, Kimberly Tim Niggel, Lisa Parker, Ryan Parker, Erin Michael Twiss, Lauren Jason Patton, Andrea Thomas Doyle, and Andrew Russell; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jane was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Hill. She attended Maryville College, Tennessee, where she met her husband Bob. She received a nursing degree from Kentucky Baptist Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky, which she often used in the loving care of her husband and children. She shared her love of learning and faith with her children, grandchildren and others, teaching Sunday School and volunteering at Concord School. Mrs. Russell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Troy, where she was a former deacon and elder. She was also a member of Literacy is for Everyone. In 1996, she and her husband, Robert served as grand marshals for the Troy Strawberry Festival Parade. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, Troy, with Rev. Dr. Richard Culp officiating. Friends may call from 10-11AM on Saturday at the church. Audine Walker Tuscany, age 99, of Royal Oak, died May 25, 2015. She was born January 13, 1916 in Maryville, Tennessee to Rufus and Lenora Walker. Mrs. Tuscany was a teacher in the Royal Oak School System, a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church, Royal Oak and Royal Oak Chapter 392 Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to golf and enjoyed bowling. Surviving are her daughters, Anna (Edwin) Cline of Royal Oak, Michigan and Laurella (G. Thomas) Perser of Ball, Louisiana; 6 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her long-time friend and companion, John Olexy, in 2010 and by her siblings, Clarence Walker and twins, John Walker and Lenora Hurford.
