Dr. K. Brandon Barker published his first book, Folk Illusions: Children, Folklore, and Sciences of Perception (Indiana University Press, 2019). He also recently moved to the position of Assistant Professor of Folklore in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology at Indiana University, Bloomington.

received an honor for her work as Resident Services Employee of the Year at Home Forward (formerly the Housing Authority of Portland, OR). Sarah has been a Resident and Community Services Coordinator for 4 1/2 years, serving low-income public housing residents in Multnomah County, Oregon. Sarah and her husband, Jesús, and daughter Aurelia (3) also got the joy of traveling to visit Jesús’ family and celebrate 10 years of marriage in Merida, Venezuela in January of 2015. Sarah and Jesus met in Merida in September 2002, when Sarah accompanied Jamey Cook (MC class of 2004) as a Mobility Assistant on her study abroad experience. It was a wonderful experience to go back and be able to introduce the next generation to the culture and people Sarah and Jamey came to love 13 years ago!

Prospect Elementary teacher Heather Byrd ’02 will become the assistant principal at Eagleton Elementary School. She succeeds Chad Tipton, who was named principal at Rockford Elementary last month. A graduate of Heritage High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Maryville College, and master’s and education specialist’s degrees from Tennessee Technological University. Byrd currently is working on her doctorate. She just completed her 15th year in education, nine as an elementary school teacher. Byrd taught for eight years in Murray County, Ga., and the past school year was a second-grade teacher at Prospect Elementary. In between, she was an elementary instructional coach for five years and an English language arts coordinator in Bradley County before she and her husband decided to move back home to Blount County.

Jason Day was selected as a member of Apple Distinguished Educator class for 2017. Since 1994, Apple has selected 820 individuals from the Americas. The program recognized educators that are using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning.

Jason J. Day ’02 was recognized by the University of Cincinnati Provost Office at the 2017-18 Faculty Awards with the eLearning Program of the Year award as being part of the iPad Implementation Team in the UC Athletics Program. Additionally, he was accepted into the MSIS Program at the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business.

Currently lives in a Washington DC suburb and teach AP World and sociology at Sherwood High School. He coaches the girls varsity soccer at Northwest High School making it to the elite 8 in the 4A Maryland state tournament the last two consecutive years.

On August 29, 2013 of The Bard coffee house fame, was interviewed on Montana Public Radio today about his new book on “Montana Beer: a guide to breweries in Big Sky country”. He covers cultural legacies, economic impacts, environmental best practices in a state that is first in beer jobs/population.

Joshua Noah graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in May 2015 with both his Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education degrees. He was ordained as a Teaching Elder in the PCUSA on July 18, 2015 by the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy and currently serves as solo pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City, MO – outside of St. Louis.

Rev. Joshua Noah was recently called to serve as the part-time pastor of Open Table United Church of Christ and also the part-time Campus Minister for UKirk South Alabama, in Mobile, AL. He and his partner, Lawrence Leto, live in Gulf Shores and enjoy spending time at the beach.

Recently named new William Blount Athletic Director. After MC he went on to earn his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and an EdS at Lincoln Memorial. The first semester will be the most challenging for Ridge as he balances his new assistant principal duties with athletic director as well as head football coach.

of Houston, Texas, graduated with a Master of Divinity and the Master of Arts degrees at Princeton Theological Seminary’s 203rd commencement ceremony, held on Saturday, May 23, 2015. The Master of Divinity is a three-year graduate degree that is the basic professional degree for ministry. The Master of Arts in education is the basic professional degree for Christian educators. The Seminary awarded a total of 169 degrees at the Commencement Exercises.
