Class of 2012
finished 13th in the world at the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games in July. In August he came back to campus to speak to this year’s Fighting Scots football team about his journey from being a student athlete to being a world-class competitor.

2016 was his second year qualifying and competing at the worldwide CrossFit Games. In 2015 he received 13th place, and in July 2016 came in at 11th place! He said while he was hoping to do better this year, he is still happy to improve upon last year. He looks forward to this years training, and is hungry to get back out there and represent East Tennessee and Maryville College.

During the international Reebok CrossFit Games Aug. 3-6 in Madison, Wis., Alex finished in ninth place after coming in 11th in 2016 and 13th in 2015. As a professional CrossFit athlete, he trains by doing multiple workout sessions a day in this discipline that involves everything from training with weights, to physical endurance, to gymnastics-like exercises. Mr. Nathanial Jericho Bishop, age 32, of Dalton, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, in Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Clayton Winters, Sr., and James Franklin Bishop:
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sharon and Allen Green: father and stepmother, Rodney and Gina Bishop: sisters and brother in law, Jessica and David Grafton, Kristen Bishop: stepbrothers and sister in law, Ben and Kayla Patterson, Dustin Patterson: grandmothers, Barbara Winters and Effie Bishop. niece and nephew, Skylar and Des. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

Birmingham-based law firm of Carr Allison has added Erin Gomez as new associate to its Chattanooga office. Gomez, a graduate of Maryville College and Emory University School of Law, will focus her practice on commercial transportation, premises liability, professional liability and labor and employment litigation. At Emory, she served as an editor of the Emory International Law Review, a student member of the Emory International Humanitarian Law Clinic and president of Emory Immigration Law Practice Society. While in law school, Erin interned with the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Coca-Cola Company.

Mollianne Reese Hubbs '11 has been named as the Sevier County Wildfire Response Coordinator by the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. The Holston Conference is partnering with the Appalachian Service Project to build 25 homes for people who lost their homes due to the wildfires.

Cade Walker Hubbs was born October 27th, 2021. He is the son of Mollianne Reese Hubbs (2012) and Will Hubbs. Grandson of Jimmy Reese (1981) and Melanie Petree Reese (1983). Great-Grandson of Kyle Petree (1955) and Roberta Myers Petree (1956).

Kingsport City Schools has announced the appointment of Wesley Idlette as the head coach of the high school’s wrestling program. Idlette has been teaching physical education at Andrew Johnson Elementary School since 2012. The East Carolina softball program completed its staff with the hiring of Leah Kelley ’12 as an assistant coach according to an announcement from head coach Beth Keylon-Randolph on Monday. Kelley, who will work with infielders and outfielders and also be involved in game management and recruiting responsibilities, was a two-year letter winner at Maryville College and helped the Scots reach the championship game of the Great South Athletic Conference in 2012.

Alexander Kurt Lloyd, formerly known as Tabatha Kathleen Lloyd, 25 of Knoxville, passed away on September 27th 2015 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Kurt is survived by his father and step-mother James and Tabitha Lloyd; his brother Christopher Shafer, and siblings R.L., Gracie, and Chloe Lloyd; and his grandparents Genevieve Spurgeon, Raymond and Jo Lloyd; and by his aunts and uncles Kevin and Deb Spurgeon, Louis and Misty McGill, and Courtney and Chan Smith. He is predeceased by his mother Stacey Kathleen Spurgeon. Kurt received his GED at 17. He graduated summa cum laude from Pellissippi State Community College in 2008 with an associate's degree in chemistry. He graduated magna cum laude from Maryville College in 2012 with a degree in history and a minor in art history and was inducted into Alpha Gamma Sigma honor scholarship society. He was pursuing a master's degree at the University of Tennessee's School of Information Science and was working as Computer Trainer at the Clinton Public Library. Kurt was an amazing person and was loved and will be missed by his family and friends. He was very active in supporting the LGBT Community. He was an active member of the local chapter of the SCA. Completed her master’s degree at College of Charleston and is a Researcher at the US Environmental Protection Agency in Chapel Hill, NC. The lab group works on lung cellular epigenetic responses to air pollutant exposures (primarily ozone) using in vitro primary cell models and some clinical human exposure studies.

Paige Sevier ’12 has been hired as Watertown (TN) High’s girls’ basketball coach. Sevier spent the previous two years teaching math at her alma mater Jackson County and serving as an assistant on the Lady Devil team under Jim Brown. She was two seasons an assistant at Macon County. She played two years each at Roane State Community College and at Maryville College.
