Michael Lee Anderson

Memoriam

Michael Lee Anderson (Mike), age 54, passed away Sunday March 18, 2018. He graduated from Alcoa High School in 1981 and received a BA in Accounting from Maryville College in 1986. Michael was a member of the Alcoa Kiwanis and was an Ambassador for the Blount Chamber Partnership. He worked for 29 years at First Tennessee Bank, leaving as a senior vice president. He was most recently employed at Russell & Abbott Heating and Air being awarded the “Highest Gross Sales for a New Salesman.” He is preceded by his grandparents Leonard and Mary Hightower, William and Blanche Anderson, his father David Anderson, and son Blake Anderson. He is survived by his wife Julie Anderson, son Derek Anderson, his mother Wanda Anderson, mother-in-law Katherine Parker, sisters-in-law, Diane Drake and Karen LaLonde as well as many other loving relatives. Michael was a loving husband, father, and son who truly lived life to its fullest through his many passions such as art, music, books, and especially his devotion to his family. His generosity and love for those around him was beyond measure, and he was always considered a foundation of strength for his family. A graveside service was held March 23, 2018, at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be given to the Alcoa Kiwanis or Blount County Humane Society. Beth has retired from the old DuPont and started her own business, Beth’s Homemade Goods, LLC. After 30 years of baking and canning for friends, it’s time to make a life long dream come true (and the tax deductions will be nice too). With both kids grown and starting their own lives, she will get to begin a new chapter of her own. Wish her luck!.

Robert H. Freeman

Memoriam

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Rob” Hays Freeman, who left this life on February 16th, 2024, at the age of 59. Born to the late George Pierce ‘Buddy’ Freeman III and Helen Sewell Freeman on December 30,1964 and grew up in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Rob attended Father Ryan High School and Maryville College. In his professional life, Rob began in 1995, a successful manufacturer’s representative business, Mechanical Products, Inc. selling in Georgia, Tennessee and Florida which continues with his passionate and strategic vision for the industry.

A Tennessee native migrated to the North Georgia mountains to raise his family and to anchor his business until he made his way back to the waters of the Tennessee River to live his final dream on a houseboat. He had a lifelong attraction to the waters of Old Hickory Lake to the Gulf of Mexico. All the while listening to his favorite musicians which he enjoyed sharing with everyone he knew. Rob enjoyed most sports with a fervent allegiance to the UT Volunteers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and NASCAR.

Rob leaves behind the loves of his life, Michele Freeman and his treasured daughter, Abigale Freeman. His nephews David Freeman (Jen, Logan, and Dylan) and Dirk Freeman, brother “Geep” Freeman (Sharon) and his sister Mary Ann Pennington (Rick) as well as the entire Sewell family from Atlanta. His friends who became family, Paul Beasley, Jamie Boulanger, Freddy Britton, John Elliott, Ray Hawkins, Todd Jarrell, Haynes Johnson, Andy Paulsen, Larry Perry, Danny Schenk, Victor Sewell, Pat York, and Brian Tabor (pre-deceased) and so many others. As well as many business partners that became lifelong friends.

In the quiet wake of Rob’s passing, his legacy and generosity will continue to ripple through the lives he touched, the business he created and the memories he made.

is principal at Foothills Elementary School which was recently named a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan in September 2014. This was based on its overall academic excellence or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. The school is the first Maryville school to receive the award in a decade and the first Blount County school to receive it in four years.
